Tooth Mousse

What Tooth Mousse and Tooth Mousse Plus do, which one suits whom, and how to apply them.

GC Tooth Mousse Plus in strawberry, vanilla and mint

What it is

GC Tooth Mousse is a water-based crème containing CPP-ACP (Recaldent), a protein complex derived from milk that delivers calcium and phosphate to the tooth surface.

Tooth Mousse or Tooth Mousse Plus?

  • Tooth Mousse: calcium and phosphate, no fluoride. Suitable for adults and for children under six, when recommended by your dentist
  • Tooth Mousse Plus: the same calcium and phosphate, plus fluoride (900 ppm). For adults and children over six
  • Plus is usually the better choice when extra fluoride protection is wanted, such as a higher risk of decay or erosion
  • Both come in several flavours, including mint, strawberry and vanilla

When I may recommend it

  • Sensitivity, including during or after whitening
  • Early white-spot areas of weakened enamel, such as after braces
  • Dry mouth, or a higher risk of decay or erosion

How to use it

  • Brush your teeth first
  • Apply a pea-sized amount with a clean finger or in your trays, and spread it over the teeth
  • Leave it on for at least three minutes, then spread the rest around with your tongue
  • Don’t rinse, eat or drink for 30 minutes; last thing at night works best

Who should not use it

  • Anyone with a milk-protein allergy must not use Tooth Mousse or Tooth Mousse Plus (lactose intolerance alone is not a problem)
  • Tooth Mousse Plus is not for children under six because of its fluoride
