Strengths and
wear times
I use SDI's Pola take-home system with custom-made trays. Your strength and wear time are chosen for your teeth and sensitivity, and lower strengths worn for longer are often gentler.
Pola Day
Hydrogen peroxide, worn during the day
| Strength | Recommended wear time |
|---|---|
| 6% | 1 or 2 × 30 minutes a day, or 1 × 45 minutes a day |
| 7.5% | 1 or 2 × 30 minutes a day, or 1 × 45 minutes a day |
| 9.5% | 2 × 15 minutes a day, or 1 × 30 minutes a day |
Pola Night
Carbamide peroxide, worn in the evening or overnight
| Strength | Recommended wear time |
|---|---|
| 10% | 2 hours to overnight |
| 16% | 90 minutes to overnight |
| 18% | 90 minutes to overnight |
| 22% | 1 × 45 minutes a day |
Wear times are SDI's general recommendations for Australia and may change. Always follow the instructions I give you for your own treatment, and check the latest product information on SDI's website. Stop and call the practice if sensitivity is severe.
- Options
- At-home or in-chair
- Top-ups
- Every 1 to 2 years
- Reversible
- Colour slowly relapses
[ often suits ]
- General yellowing on healthy teeth
- Brightening before bonding or veneers
[ worth knowing ]
Temporary sensitivity is common. Fillings, crowns and veneers don’t change colour, so whitening usually comes first in a smile plan. Results fade slowly and can be topped up.
[ how it goes ]
A check-up and clean, a scan for custom trays, then two to three weeks of home use with a shade check at the end.
All dental procedures carry risks, which are discussed with you before treatment. Suitability is confirmed at an in-person examination, and individual results vary.

for you?
A free smile consult is the way to find out. We'll look at veneers, bonding and every other suitable option on screen, including simpler ones, and you'll leave knowing your options and costs.
